  • Data routing and file transferring: Off-line optimization problems adressed by using single/multi-objective metaheuristics, e.g., PSO, GA, NSGA-II, SMPSO, pGA, pPSO or pNSGA-II.
  • Beacon broadcasting: On-line optimization by applying distributed heuristic greedy methods.
  • Hardware platform deployment: Multi-objective optimization problem to compute road side units (RSU) platform designs by using paralell multi-objective algorithms.
  • Real world vehicular networks deployment to perform outdoor analyses.


  • 2018 Best Spanish PhD Thesis in Smart Cities: During the CAEPIA 2018 conference the Thesis was awarded with the 2018 Best Spanish PhD Thesis in Smart Cities sponsored by the Spanish network on research for Smart Cities CI-RTI and the Sensors Journal.
  • Best PhD Thesis Award of University of Malaga (2016/2017): The PhD Thesis was awarded with the Best PhD Thesis Award among all the dissertations defended at University of Malaga during the course 2016/2017.
  • Doctoral Consortium 2013: The research hypothesis of this dissertation was awarded with the Doctoral Consortium 2013. The award was given by the Spanish Association for Artificial Intelligence (AsociaciĆ³n EspaƱola para la Inteligencia Artificial - AEPIA).
